The festival is a historic celebration now in its 635th edition. It is famous for its triumphant papier-mâché float, which is built every year and pulled by decorated mules. In the evening, the float is “torn apart” in the square, and participants keep the pieces as a good luck charm.

With this project, we have created a digital replica of this event: registered users were given a quiz on traditional themes, and based on the number of correct answers, they had the opportunity to “tear apart” the 3D float and receive the pieces as NFTs. This activity is part of the Call4Future initiative in collaboration with the municipality and Matera’s Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti (CTE).
